A man without a smiling face must not open a shop.
Dale Carnegie in his world class book – “How to Win Friends & Influence People” mentions this ancient Chinese Proverb while explaining importance of first impression while dealing with people. In his own words, “the expression one wears on one’s face is far more important than the clothes one wears on one’s back.”
Having a smiling face is great gift one can have. People who smile tend to relieve stress and make other people feel happy and relieved. For example, imagine you are stressed out on the job and your colleague meets you with a genuine smile on his or her face. It not only makes you feel happy, but it assures you that it is not the end of the world! Smiling while talking whether it is in-person, over the phone or through any other medium, is an effective tool and people will find themselves engaged in such conversation. No wonder why it is one of the most used technique in ‘Customer Service Training 101’.
Why ‘SMILE’ is such a powerful tool? Everyone in the world is seeking happiness – and the only way to find it is to control your thoughts. Happiness is nothing but the reflection of your inner thoughts and the best way to bring them out is ‘smile genuinely’. As Shakespeare once said,”there is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it so.”
